Instrumento para la determinación del nivel sonoro ambiental. Está constituido por un micrófono, un preamplificador/amplificador, un circuito de ponderación o filtro, un circuito rectificador e integrador y un indicador de registro que puede ser analógico o digital. Los circuitos de ponderación son filtros de banda de frecuencias con una anchura relativamente grande, cuyo poder de selección está determinado de forma tal que representen la respuesta del oído a un ruido complejo.
