COANAS

     
   Choana: orificios de comunicación de las fosas nasales con la nasofaringe.
   Sinónimo: aperturas posteriores.
 
   <(F): Choane: est l'un des deux orifices postérieurs des fosses nasales (cavités qui font communiquer le nez avec le pharynx). Les cavités nasales font partie des structures externes du nez à l'intérieur desquels l'air pénètre par les narines. Elles sont séparées par le septum nasal qui est constitué en avant par du cartilage hyalin correspondant au cartilage septal proprement dit et en arrière par le vomer et la lame perpendiculaire de l'ethmoïde.
 
   <(Ing): Choana: the passageway from the back of one side of the nose to the throat. There are two choanae, one on either side of the nose. The choanae must be open to permit breathing through the nose. The noun choana is less used than the adjective choanal, as in choanal atresia (blockage of the choanal passage) and choanal stenosis (narrowing of the choanal passage).
