Ein Gerät, das die Akustik des Kopfes und der Ohrmuschel eines Menschen simuliert, indem es mit Hilfe eines kalibrierten Wandlers den Druck misst, der am Trommelfell eines echten Ohres auftreten würde. Es wird verwendet, um die Gesamtwirkung von Ohrhörern plus Polstern auf die Wiedergabetreue von Sprache zu bestimmen, ohne auf anspruchsvolle, hochtrainierte (d.h. teure) reale Hörer für subjektive Tests zurückgreifen zu müssen. Letzteres ist eine weitaus zuverlässigere Methode der Bewertung.

A device that simulates the acoustics of the head and the ear cavity of a human being, measuring by means of a calibrated transducer the pressure that would occur at the ear-drum of a real ear. It is used in determining the total effect of earphones plus cushions on the fidelity of reproduction of speech without resorting to sophisticated, highly trained (i.e. expensive) real listeners for subjective testing. The latter is a far more reliable method of evaluation.
