Trastorno renal causado por un conjunto de enfermedades, caracterizado por aumento en la permeabilidad de la pared capilar de los glomérulos renales que conlleva a la presencia de niveles altos de proteína en la orina (proteinuria), niveles bajos de proteína en la sangre (hipoproteinemia o hipoalbuminemia), ascitis y en algunos casos, edema, colesterol alto (hiperlipidemia o hiperlipemia) y una predisposición para la coagulación.
