Órgano encapsulado, redondo u oval, ocupado tejido linfático. Son muy numerosos y ampliamente distribuidos por todo el organismo, son puntos de confluencia de vasos linfáticos y sanguíneos. Están envueltos por una cápsula que aumenta su espesor a nivel del hileo.

Sont souvent disposés en chaînes ou groupés en amas. Ils sont placés sur le trajet de la lymphe circulant des tissus vers le sang : aine, aisselle, cou, etc. Certains ganglions sont superficiels et palpables chez les sujets minces, d'autres profonds et visibles à l'examen radiologique.
